Hema Malini married Dharmendra in 1980 and it was the talk of the town. The reigning 'Dreamgirl' married Bollywood's 'He-man' and while fans were happy, their wedding came in with a lot of complexities. Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur and had four children - Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta and Ajeita with her. While he wanted to marry Hema Malini, he refused to leave his first wife. Recently, Hema Malini also admitted that they were dating during the making of 'Sholay' and their off-screen romance added to their on-screen chemistry in the film. While they tied the knot, Hema Malini always lived separately with their daughters Esha and Ahana Deol. One has never seen Hema with Dharmendra's sons Sunny and Bobby. But in a rare moment, the actress had spoken about her equation with Sunny.
Hema said that she shares a beautiful relationship with her step-son Sunny. She said at the press conference during the launch of her biography written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, "Everyone wonders what kind of relationship we have. It's very beautiful and cordial. Whenever it is necessary, he (Sunny) is always there, along with Dharamji, especially when this accident happened."

The actress had suffered a car accident in 2015 after which Sunny visited her. She added further, "He was the first person to come and see me at home and he saw that the right doctor is there for the stitches that were done on my face.
I was really taken aback to see him showing so much interest. That shows what kind of a relationship we are having."
Earlier in an interview with Lehren, Hema Malini had spoken about living separately from Dharmendra as he lived with his first family. She had said, "Nobody wants to be like that; it happens. Automatically, naturally, what happens, you have to accept. Otherwise, nobody will feel like they want to live their life like this. No! Every woman wants to have a husband and children, like a normal family. But somewhere, it went out of the way.” The actress went on to clarify that she has no regrets, saying, “I am not feeling bad about it or sulking or feeling sad about it. I am happy with myself. I have my two children, and I have brought them up very well,” while also noting that Dharmendra has always been there for her and their daughters."
