MLC 2025 Playoffs: Freedom, Super Kings, Unicorns & MI New York Vie for Title in Dallas

The race for the top spot in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season was closely contested, with Washington Freedom (WF) edging out Texas Super Kings (TSK) and San Francisco Unicorns (SFU). The top three teams were separated by a mere two points, with TSK and SFU distinguished by a slim 0.273 net run rate (NRR) after finishing level on points.

Washington Freedom clinched the top position in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) standings.

MI New York (MI NY) secured the fourth playoff spot, finishing eight points behind the top three but surpassing Seattle Orcas due to a superior net run rate. Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) endured a difficult season, managing only two victories in their ten matches.

Washington Freedom concluded the group stage with 16 points, having won eight of their ten matches. Their only losses came against the Unicorns and TSK. Notably, six of Freedom's victories occurred while chasing.

Faf du Plessis's Texas Super Kings recorded two streaks of three consecutive wins during the league stage, interspersed with three defeats. They accumulated 14 points with an NRR of 1.603.

TSK's NRR was slightly better than that of the Unicorns, who initially led the standings and seemed poised to finish at the top. However, three losses in their final four matches hindered their progress.

MI New York secured the final playoff spot despite a lackluster performance. Their three wins in ten matches were enough to advance, largely due to the equally poor performances of Orcas and LAKR. Worryingly, MI NY's only victories were against Orcas and twice against LAKR.
