Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s courtroom drama ‘Jolly LLB 3’ has scored a big win even before hitting the big screen. The Allahabad High Court has cleared the way for its release by dismissing a petition that targeted the song ‘Bhai Vakeel Hai’ and even sought a stay on the film, over allegations of the film defaming the judiciary and the legal profession.The court, however, ruled that there was “nothing objectionable” in the trailer, teaser or the song’s lyrics, handing much-needed relief to the makers as the film heads for release.

Allahabad HC finds no fault in song

As reported by News18, a Division Bench, of Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh, closely examined the matter before delivering its verdict. After reviewing the song ‘Bhai Vakeel Hai’, along with the teaser and trailer of ‘Jolly LLB 3’, the judges concluded that nothing in the content was offensive or disrespectful to the dignity of the legal system.The court stated, “We did not find any objectionable matter to warrant interference by this Court. We have also gone through the lyrics of the song ‘Bhai Vakeel Hai’ and we do not find anything which may interfere in the practice of the legal profession by genuine Advocates.” With these observations, the plea was dismissed in its entirety, and the court decided not to impose any costs on the petitioners.

Pune court issues notices to lead actors

Even though the Allahabad High Court has cleared the film, another case is still pending.
On 20 August, a Pune court issued notices to Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi in connection with a complaint against ‘Jolly LLB 3’.The case was filed by lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar, who claimed that the film mocks the legal system and court proceedings. He also objected to a scene where judges are referred to as “mamu”, a slang term he said was derogatory and insulting to the judiciary. Both actors have been directed to appear before the Pune court on 28 September.


‘Jolly LLB’ franchise

The ‘Jolly LLB’ franchise first arrived in 2013 with Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla in lead roles. Its unique blend of courtroom drama and humour won over audiences and critics alike. The success of the first film paved the way for a sequel in 2017.The second part starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role, alongside Huma Qureshi. With its gripping storytelling and strong performances, the sequel carried forward the spirit of the franchise while adding its own flavour.


About ‘Jolly LLB 3’

The third instalment of the franchise, ‘Jolly LLB 3’, has been written and directed by Subhash Kapoor and has a strong cast including Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi and Amrita Rao. The film is set to release on September 19.
