Among the ensemble is actress Sheeba Chadha, who will play the role of Manthara. In a recent interview, she opened up about stepping into this legendary story and how the scale of the project took her by surprise, making even her small role feel exciting and memorable.
Sheeba Chadha was surprised by the film’s ambitious scale
Speaking to Mid-Day, Sheeba said, "Everybody everywhere is asking me about 'Ramayana'. When I was shooting it, I did not know that the project is so ambitious! The intrigue or curiosity around it [is off the roof.]”
Sheeba shares the enjoyment of her role
Despite her role being small, Sheeba enjoyed the experience. Her scenes with Lara Dutta were particularly memorable. She said, "I have a small role, but it was fun working on the movie. My work was largely with Lara Dutta." She also appreciated the excitement surrounding the film and the curiosity it has sparked among audiences.
Producer explained the epic and ambitious vision
Namit Malhotra, producer of the film, shared insights about the project in a conversation with Prakhar Gupta.
“We’re funding it ourselves. We’re not taking anybody’s money,” Malhotra said. “People thought I was crazy when we started six-seven years ago, just after the pandemic. No Indian film had come close to this kind of budget.”
He added, “We are making the largest film in the world for the greatest story, the greatest epic that the world should see. And I still think it's cheaper than it costs to make some of the biggest Hollywood films.” By the time both parts are completed, the production cost is expected to be around $500 million.

The film boasts a remarkable cast, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol playing Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
